season of mists and mellow enrollment
Sep. 8th, 2009 09:47 am1. The kids are back at school. BACK BACK BACK. New teachers, new timetables, sudden demands for money.
2. Went to see the premiere of the new Merlin season at the BFI on sunday, with
ruric and <
ravurian, complete with cast Q&A at the end. Oh, if you're a fan you'll know all about this. I am not a huge Merlin fan, but it was great fun - much hilarity at the scarcely-buried homoerotic subtext...
3. Am such a dilettante. For some reason, on the back of the camping trip to Reading, I have got it into my head that what I really want to do more than anything in the world (this week) is go long-distance cycling again. Not only that, but I want to acquire my own lightweight camping gear so that I pack everything in my (non-existent) panniers and go travelling. In Britain. In October.
I haven't done anything as stupid as log onto Amazon One-Click, and besides we have no bloody money, what with The Big Birthday With the Oh In It, and the Last Gasp Italian Holiday, let alone new shoes/new uniform/new bikes/new toilet. Still. My extremely detailed fantasy shopping list currently runs as follows:( Read more... )
4. Little E. is starting numerous new activities, not something she ever enjoys. I have been on the hunt for a suitable youth group, and I sort of decided on our local branch of the (hippie, Steiner-esque) Woodcraft Folk in preference to (Imperialist, Godbothering) Brownie Guides, but at the last minute (a) realised that Woodcraft Folk is on a bad night and (b) was offered a place for Little E. in the local Brownie pack.
She has to wear a uniform and make dark promises about God, Queen and country, which stick in my craw slightly; on the other hand she rather fancies all the rubbish crafts and girlie sleepovers.
Woodcraft Folk do survival skills and go caving; mind you they also appear to go and attack nuclear power stations in their downtime, so you are swapping one form of political indoctrination over another. Sigh.
5. Evening classes! (see Dilettante, above)
Currently trying to choose between Beginner Silversmithing and a Higher National Diploma in Genetics. *winces*
