I took P. to see Twilight this afternoon.

*cough*

I thought it was awesome. So did he. *facepalm to the nth*

There were about 20 people in the theatre, most of them 14 year old girls. P. was awestruck with happiness when I told him they're making another one. He thought it was 'kind of cool.' I think it's partly because Twilight takes its emo subject matter very very seriously.

Oh God, I also fancied Robert Pattinson in it. Somebody save me.

In other news, I fail at Christmas. Thank you to [personal profile] yanks_02and <lj user="infinitemonkeys"> for cards and such. I have just about managed to send 6 corporate Christmas cards; I think I've bought all the family stuff, but it's hidden over half the house and I don't think I will ever find some of it again; and the house is a HUGE HIDEOUS MESS where I actually don't know where to start. Seriously. Piles. of. appalling. crap. EVERYWHERE.

to the tune of In the Bleak Midwinter

Crap was piiiiled
Crap on crap
Cra-ap o-on cra-ap
In the bleak Parthenia house
Just a moment ago...

What can I give her
Poor as I am?
If I were a clutter consultant
I would hand her a dustpan...

(Oh fuckety fuckety arse. *cries*)

I took myself to see it last week - and while I have no desire to read the books, I did think the movie had a kind of kitsch, naive B-grade charm to it. And as that was its saving grace for me, I was glad the effects were also naive and B-grade, because they fit it rather nicely. If it had tried to be more 'realistic' I would have enjoyed it a lot less.

Definitely didn't fancy RPatz, aside from the whole 'he's a vampire' thing - the various expressions that made me think he was terribly constipated were a bit of a put-off, but I thought he did a nice job of it anyway. I think she was very badly cast - so I kind of got bored with her, but I still came away thinking 'hey, that was kind of okay after all'.

I actually just really liked the whole 'family' and the dynamic between them. I'm a sucker for vampires that are a bit outside the square. (I may have also found the 'bad guy' vaguely hot *joins you on road to hell*).

The audience for my session was also small, mostly late teens / early 20 somethings in groups and couples. Some of them left, most of them seemed to also enjoy the kitsch.

*hugs*

I've read 2 of the books and I thought Kirsten Stewart was perfect as Bella - much less whiny than Book!Bella (yeah, yeah, I know). RPattz I like, and I thought he did a good job with a really pretty terrible role. Bits that I thought would be appalling (vampire baseball) were actually rather good.

Jasper made me giggle; and Alice was basically Bjork.

I thought P. would be horrified, but I think there's an element of understanding-love-angst that kindasorta appeals to him.

Yeah. Right with you there on the horror-at-self re how much I enjoyed Twilight. And I, too, fancied Robert Patterson there, for a few minutes.

Do you think they've built in an Imperius spell there? The only way I can explain it. Am definitely going to see the movie for the second book.

Others have said it better, but I think the film improved on the book, and yet stayed true to it. I'd like to see it again without P. so that I could stop worrying about whether he liked it and just concentrate. I thought it was well-made, with the film detail (Bella's dad, for example) really bringing the story alive. RPattz did anxious strained muscular self-restraint rather well. *g*

I think for P. it was outside the mainstream of action/superhero movies; he said he liked it because it wasn't predictable. He could also spot the set-up for Film 2.

He's also quite fascinated by popular films that take teenagers seriously (he adored Juno, for example, and the Brit film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging). It's perhaps not a coincidence that all those films are from a girl's point of view.
