1. Juno
I think I'm the last person in the world to see Juno - I rented it this weekend and completely loved it. Not what I expected from the 'film about a teenager choosing adoptive parents'. Ellen Page is so gorgeous and quick and funny. I also loved her stepmom, who had some of the best lines in the film. Also, the creaky faux-naif soundtrack: (I don't see what anyone can see in) Anyone Else. Brilliant film.
2. 27 Dresses
Yay rubbish! Rubbish acted with great sincerity by Katherine Heigl and James Marsden. As with Ellen Page, I'd pay to watch Katherine Heigl brush her teeth. She's one of the few modern actresses to really channel 1940s stars.
3. Fanvideos
One of the conventions that I would absolutely love to go to is Vividcon, the fanvideo convention. I'm slowly working my way through the vids as they're posted up, and if you haven't seen it yet, you should totally watch Handlebars (link to Imeem stream), a Dr Who video based on the last series which is a masterpiece of how to cut music and video - the song sounds cheerful and silly to start with, and rapidly goes very dark indeed. It's a terrific commentary on the Doctor, and very enjoyable too.
Another one I came across: I bet that you look good on the dancefloor, Life on Mars. I really don't know the source series all that well, but I do know the Arctic Monkeys song, and once again the audio and video contrast each other so that you end up with something rather unexpected.
And another one to end:- Nouvelle Vague/Family Guy 'Too drunk' (song NSFW).
ETA: Amateur video responses...
Hot on the heels of the discussion of the insanely catching ChapStick lesbian song ('I kissed a girl and I liked it!11'), and the Cobra Starship parody ('I kissed a boy, and they liked it') we have a minor Youtube phenomenon: the amateur cover. Best I have seen so far is this rather troubling version ) apparently done by two very bored teenagers. Check out the girl/boy in the shopping trolley. 0.o
