Ah, I'm worn out, for some good reasons:

1) Went out with [livejournal.com profile] ravurian and [livejournal.com profile] ruric to see a Gaelic folk singer called Julie Fowlis at Union Chapel in north London. Oh. My. Word. Beautiful, beautiful voice; terrific Scottish/Irish band; surprising funny banter in between songs, and did I say how good they were? BBC folk singer of the year. For a reason.

I bought one of her CDs but although they're nice, not a patch on the real, live thing.

I always think gig-going, like so many things in life, is a process involving intermittent reinforcement (i.e. half the gigs are shite, some are perfectly fine and a few are completely out of this world), and well, she fell into that category. Why the whole thing was not sold out to the rafters, I will not know.

2) I have finished with PA client, having presented on Friday to a terribly appreciative end client of her who repeatedly said how great my work was. Which it sometimes is. This means I am free, FREE I tell you. Except it's half-term.

3) Little E. cried her socks off yesterday, because she could not get a ticket to her school's Spooky Disco. Honestly, the English and Halloween. No one will send you a pumpkin round here without a huge diatribe about trick or treat and how we're all turning American, and I am all, NO YOU FOOLS THIS IS MY SCOTTISH HERITAGE. Bah. Anyway today, I organised a scratch Halloween party for little E and her best friend, with P and his friend hanging around to poke fun.

It was awesome. We had crispy scabs (crisps) blood lemonade in skull-shaped goblets; spooky pizza; graveyard mud with dead men's bones (Angel Delight with chocolate fingers) and a pile of spooky sweets.

We also had:

- dooking for apples (a howling success)
- pumpkin carving (little E's friend confided that he really likes sharp knives and fire_
- Dr Frankenstein's Spare Body Parts box (put your hand in the box and guess the object; warm noodles get them every time).

I feel Scottishly vindicated. I explained a little bit about Scottish Halloween, and the origins of this as Celtic New Year, and they nodded and said this was exactly like Friend 1 (Jewish New Year). Also it was extremely good fun :-)
